Westgate Center holds mountainbike race

MANILA, Philippines - Westgate Center in Filicity, Alabang, Muntinlupa is inviting bikers and bike enthusiasts to join the first Mongoose X-Country Race at the Filicity Bike Trail on May 8.

Organized in partnership with Bikeline, distributor of Mongoose Bikes, the race is divided into seven age categories: beginners (13-20, 21-30 years old, and 31-40 years old); masters (41 and above), ladies (open age beginners); megaman (200 lbs and up/36” waistline) and Sport/Classified (open age).

Westgate Center is also hosting a series of free bike clinics for mountain bikers on May 1, 15, 22 and 29, 9 a.m., at the Westgate cul de sac and Filicity bike trail.

Facilitated by Albert Buenaseda of Bikeline, topics for the bike clinics include basic cornering and braking, and basic bike maintenance and troubleshooting. Registration is free, but interested parties are required to bring their own bikes. Helmet and proper riding gear are also required.

Registration fee for the race is P400. Registration forms are available at the Festival Supermall customer service counter starting April 30.

Cash prizes, trophies, medals, raffle prizes and giveaways are at stake for racers.

Interested racers may also call up Bikeline at 238-2429 or register on the site on May 8.

Racers are required to bring their own bikes (minimum tire size: 1.95 knobby type) tools, spare parts, and protective gears. No protective gears, no race.
