RP Swim League holds age group meet at Amoranto May 1
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Swimming League is holding a national age-group swimming competition, dubbed “Belmonte Cup”, May 1 at the Olympic- size swimming pool inside the Amoranto Sports Complex on Roces Ave., Quezon City.
PSL founder Theresa Alvarez and president Susan Papa said the competition, held in cooperation with coaches, parents and swimmers of the Aquatic Sports Association of the Philippines, will be held in various categories – six-under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15 years and over.
The meet, sponsored by Quezon City Mayor Sonny Belmonte and Joy Belmonte, is hosted by coach Emer Matienzo of Bosay Aquatics Club.
Mayor Belmonte has given the PSL and ASAP, under president Ma. Luz Arzaga-Mendoza, free use of the pool which is under the supervision of sports administrator Andy Apostol.
The competition is sponsored by Mayor Sonny Belmonte, Darren Evangelista of Evangelista Aquatics and Sports Management and Growee Multi Vitamins.
The officials will be headed by coach Edgar Galeno.
Around 250 participants from different clubs and schools are expected to participate in the meet held by the PSL and the ASAP in line with their program of improving swimming standards at the age group level through regular competitions.
“We have set up competitions monthly to develop grassroots swimmers into competitive level and eventually make them elite athletes in the future,” said Papa, who said the PSL has also scheduled international competitions this summer. “We thank Mayor Belmonte for his support.”
