Carcel big karting winner

-

MANILA, Philippines - Cebuano Tonyo Carcel of AUTS Racing emerged the most bemedalled karter recently in the second leg of the 2010 Magnolia Purewater Karting Super Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit.

The feat was a fitting follow-up to his KF3 triumph recently as the 13-year-old Carcel bagged the ROK Novice crown on his first try in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Magnolia Purewater, San Miguel Corporation, Petron Corporation, Denso Iridium Power, Motorstar and Aeromed.

He clocked 13 minutes and 3.618 seconds to turn back first leg winner Estefano Rivera of PCR-Tough Gear- Fern C Racing and third placer Christian Villenuve of Maranello-San Miguel Corporation-Marcelo Racing.

Carcel claimed two other trophies as he finished runner-up to teammate Joseph Castelar in the Formula SL Expert class and third place in the ROK Junior division behind champion Roby Benito of Ready2Race and runner-up Franco Reyes of Jet Racing.

Christian Gaddi of Jet Racing went home with two as he staged a big comeback to win the Mini-ROK title and ended second behind back-to-back winner Joseph Marwin Rojo of Jet Racing in the Formula SL Novice class.

Gaddi, looking forward to his fourth straight Mini-ROK crown, controlled the tempo throughout in the qualifying heat, the Pre-Final and the Final race, completing eight laps in 11 minutes and 54.166 seconds or nearly five seconds ahead of closest rival Basti Escalante of Ready2Race and Carl Pollington of PCR-Tough Gear- Fern C Racing.

Aira Medrano, also of PCR-Tough Gear- Fern C Racing, made it fourth while lady karter Kali Carcel took fifth place.

Gaddi could have made double as he topped both the qualifying heat and the Pre-Final Race of the Formula SL Novice class and dictated the lead in the first nine laps of the Final Race.

But Rojo pulled a decisive dive on the final lap going to the finish line to wrest the front seat from Gaddi and capture his second consecutive victory.

Rojo wrapped up the race in 14 minutes and 29.968 seconds or just 0.860 of a second ahead of Gaddi.

Christopher Joseph “CJ” Tsui copped third place while Cebuanos JT Gullas and Daniel Miranda of M. Lhuillier wound up fourth and fifth respectively.
