PSC bares bonus for record breakers

- Joey Villar -

TARLAC PROVINCE , Philippines  – Record breakers in the on-going Palarong Pambansa here will get their due reward – cash incentives from the Philippine Sports Commission.

PSC chair Harry Angping yesterday announced he would give P5,000 for each athlete who broke a record in the annual multi-sports meet for elementary and high school students.

“The number of records set in this year’s Palarong Pambansa is very encouraging and should bolster sports development in the country,” said Angping, who is expected to arrive today as guest speaker of the closing ceremony.

Heading into the final day of the weeklong event, 11 meet records fell in centerpiece track and field while swimming had six new marks.

This means the government sports funding agency will hand out at least P85,000 in incentives and probably more with more events lined up on the final day of competitions today.

Big City bet Patrick Unso, son of current RP record holder in the 400m hurdles Renato, leads the elite group of record breakers by setting new marks in the 110m and 400m hurdles.

Western Visayas’ Alyssa Mae Andrade likewise had two new records in long jump and triple jump while pint-sized but big-hearted Catherine Bondad ripped the old marks in 200m and 400m freestyle events in the pool.
