National Open table netfest slated
MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Table Tennis Association (METTA) will hold the METTA Table Tennis National Invitational Cup on April 22-25 with the country’s top players competing at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The tournament will have 14 events, including singles and team events in the men’s, women’s, girls’ and boys’ events.
At least 500 participants are seeing action in the tournament with METTA president Ting Ledesma, a member of the RP table tennis team, expecting a spirited chase for top honors in various divisions.
Ledesma said the four-day event is also held to help develop the sport where the country can be at par with the best, at least in the region.
Reigning women’s champion Sendrina Balatbat is tipped to lead the women’s open singles roster in the event, backed by the Philippine Sports Commission, Annona Corp., Mae Gas Refilling Plant & Marketing, Sonia Trading and Topcoms Marketing/Star Sports Korea.
The Table Tennis Association of North District (TATAND) and Andro, meanwhile, will be out to retain the men’s and women’s team event crowns, respectively, in the tournament sanctioned by the Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP).
