Fil-Am duels Brown for WBA female title
Fil-American Ana Julaton hopes to deliver the good news today when she fights Lisa “Bad News” Brown for the vacant WBA female super-bantamweight crown at the Casa Roma in Ontario, Canada.
Julaton currently holds the WBO and IBF super-bantamweight titles, and a victory over the 39-year-old Brown will keep the punching Filipina beauty a third title in only three years as a pro boxer.
Julaton, with a ring record of 6-1-1, will enjoy a three-inch advantage in height, and at 29 she’s 10 years younger than Brown, the native of Trinidad and Tobago now residing in Ontario.
Brown is a 10-year veteran with a 16-4-3 record, including five knockouts, but is coming off a bitter loss to Hyo Min Kim of Korea last December when they fought in Inchon.
She’s never been knocked out before, and in a recent interview Brown expressed confidence that she’d come out the winner, and holding on to the three championship belts.
Julaton is hoping for the victory whether by knockout or decision.
“I’m feeling great. My condition is very good. I feel strong,” said Julaton, who used to train at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, and looks up to pound-for-pound champion Manny Pacquiao.
Julaton, an orthodox, trains under Nonito Donaire Sr.
Nicknamed “The Hurricane,” Julaton is a hard worker, and is already being labeled as the female Manny Pacquiao. And once again, she will be put to a test against the southpaw from Ontario.
“It’s an honor,” she said of the distinction. “And I feel blessed that the Filipinos are behind me.”
