Sports science seminars slated

MANILA, Philippines - University of Santo Tomas in Manila and University of San Carlos in Cebu are hosting the Sports Science Initiatives (SSI) Series, tackling among others sportssnutrition and athletes injuries .

UST is the venue of the sports science seminar on April 23-24 then USC on May 28-29.

“Having been part of many international sports delegations with the Philippine Olympic Committee, we recognize the need for education in sports science. This is definitely one of the advantages enjoyed by other countries over the Philippines in sports and we should start closing the gap now,” said Philippine Aquatics Sports Association (PASA) president Mark Joseph.

“We strongly encourage coaches from different sports to attend this sports science seminar, “ Joseph added, stressing the POC is endorsing the seminar to the different national sports associations..

The event, sponsored by Phiten, Gatorade, Technogym Equipment and Asics-Mueller, and supported by Le Ching, will have authorities on different subject matters as resource speakers including Sanirose Orbeta and Hercules Callanta.

Among the topics are sports nutrition, sports strength and conditioning, sports psychology, sports injury management, and perspectives in sports science. These are endorsed by the Philippine Association for Sports and Exercise Science (PHASES) and the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI).

Registration fee is only P1,500 for the seminar in Manila, inclusive of lunch, handouts and certificates of participation. Registration forms are available at the Phiten store in Megamall, Audiophile shops at the Mall of Asia, Ali Mall in Quezon City, and Robinson’s Forum on EDSA-Pioneer, Bike King along Bonifacio High St., and UST. Deadline for registration is April 16.
