Golden Wheel to fete top riders

MANILA, Philippines - The biggest names in Philippine racing gather anew as the Golden Wheel Nights fetes the country’s motorsports heroes March 1 at the Pagcor Theater in Parañaque.

Now on its seventh year, the quests for the coveted Golden Wheel International Driver and Golden Wheel National Driver of the Year plums are expected to be a lot tougher with the motorsports champions making significant achievements in their respective fields.

Backed up by Pagcor Sports and Casino Filipino and chaired by motorsports godfather Johnny Tan, The Golden Wheel Awards Night bears the theme, “Fostering unit and genuine sportsmanship, committed to excellence” as it pays tribute to top achievers in various disciplines of motorsports.

A photo exhibit gallery of the momentous racing events will be staged by the Southern Lights Camera-derie headed by president Rene Salta and sports photographer Bong Boado starting Feb. 24 until the Golden Wheel Awards Night at the Pagcor Casino Filipino Lobby.

Champions of these various motorsports disciplines are automatically nominated for the Golden Wheel International Driver and Golden Wheel National Driver of the Year plums.

They are Masato Fernando (underbone), Donard Yuzon (motorcross), Maico Greg Buncio (superbikes), Alex Perez (drifting), Peewee Mediola MD (slalom), Kenrich Mikhael Diaz (rallycross), Reighnbert Diwa (4x4 off road), Paul Henderson Perez (Philippine grand touring), Jonathan Tiu (drag racing), Joey Ordina (karting) and Tin Sritrai of Thailand (Asian karting).

From among these champions the Golden Wheel International Driver and National Driver of the Year will be chosen.
