Tinga Cup draws top amateur
MANILA, Philippines - The Joe Cantada Sports, in coordination with the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines-NCR, will hold the first Dante Tinga Cup-National Invitational Amateur Boxing Team Championships on Feb. 19-21 at the Cantada Sports Center in Taguig City.
The event, presented by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and supported by the City of Taguig and Lucio Tan Jr., is held in honor of retired Supreme Court Justice Dante Tinga. Playing a big role in the organization is ABAP-NCR executive Gilbert Artificio.
Entries from the country’s top boxing stables will slug it out in the event, including those from the Mandaue City team of Tony Aldeguer, Tagbilaran City team of Mayor Dan Neri, Bacolod team of Munjo Guanzon, Puerto Princesa team of Mayor Edward Hagedorn, Misamis Oriental team of Gov. Oscar Moreno, Taguig team of Mayor Freddie Tinga and Mandaluyong team of Mayor Benhur Abalos.
All boxers and trainers will be billeted at the Cantada Sports Complex, according to Edgardo Cantada.
“Even the equipment – gloves, headgear and the boxing ring – to be used are top-of-the-line Everlast. We have prepared the best accommodation for them, so they can give out their best in the event for the benefit of the national boxing program and the fans,” said Cantada.
