Garrido shines in Freego-MMTLBA

MANILA, Philippines - Janrey Garrido scored 10 of his team-high 24 points in the final period to help Hope Christian High School beat Uno High School, 74-63, in their quarterfinal showdown in the Freego-Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Assocation (MMTLBA) tournament at the Chiang Kai Shek gym in Tondo recently.

Garrdo’s exploits, which also included five rebounds, four assists and three steals, earned him the Freego Reflex Denim Player of the Week honors in the tournament presented by Fresh Gear Revolution Denim.

The sophomore from Iloilo thus became the second Hope Christian player to win the Freego-sponsored weekly honors after Jessie Pedrosa was named the top player last week.

“One of the big reasons why we’re doing well in the tournament is because of the all-around performance of Garrido,” said Hope Christian’s Bernard Yang. “I just hope he will continue playing that way so that we can advance to the finals this time.”

Pedrosa and Uno’s Isaac Lim also dished out huge numbers but Garrido’s all-around performance proved to be the best for the week.
