Record field seen in Condura Run

MANILA, Philippines - The Condura Run for the Dolphins of Bohol fires off tomorrow at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig with a record field of over 8,000 runners expected to vie for top honors in various divisions.

Organizers said the event is tipped to surpass last year’s 6,279 roster with the full marathon at Skyway, offering P60,000 to the winner, featured for the first time.

Other events on tap are the 21K, 10K, 5K and 3K.

In its inaugural run in 2008, the main race was a 10K event held to raise funds for the Tubbataha Reef and topped by Rene Herrera and Mercedita Manipol-Fetalvero.

Last year, organizers stretched the race to 21 kilometers and used a portion of the Skyway. The proceeds helped fund the protection and preservation of the whale sharks in Donsol, Sorsogon. Fetalvero repeated as women’s champion while two-time Olympian Eduardo Buenavista ruled the men’s side.

Of the runners’ registration fees, P50 will go to a fund managed by Condura to protect the dolphins of Bohol.

Skyway, Asics, and 100 Plus are the event’s presentors, while Pioneer, Coors Light, Summit Mineral Water are the chief backers. Other supporters are Herbalife, Department of Tourism, Smart, Timex, Selecta and media partners The Philippine Star, Metro, Metro Society Magazine, Women’s Health and Men’s Health.

Elmer Sabal and Hernanie Sore are fancied to dispute the men’s 42K title while sisters Ailene Tolentino and Ellen Tolentino will be the runners to watch in the distaff side.
