Eagles rip UP side, near volley Final 4

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo walloped University of the Philippines, 25-17, 25-14, 25-21, to move closer to the Final Four in the women’s division of the 72nd UAAP volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City yesterday.

University of Santo Tomas, meanwhile, slammed National U, 27-25, 25-12, 25-14, to close in on one of the twice-to-beat incentives in the semifinals.

Angeli Tabaquero unloaded 31 hits while Judy Ann Caballejo tossed in 11 points as they powered the Tigresses to their seven straight victory and 10th overall against two defeats.

The La Salle Lady Archers show the way with an impressive 11-0 (win-loss) slate while the Lady Eagles broke out of a tie with the idle Adamson Lady Falcons to grab solo third with an 8-4 record.

Diz Gervacio peppered the Lady Maroons with 16 kills while Bea Pascual scattered a career-high tying 15 hits to power the Lady Eagles to the victory.

Fille Cainglet and Gretchen Ho also combined fro 16 hits for Ateneo, which missed the Final Four last year after reaching the post-season for the first time two seasons ago.
