BBL-UB still unscathed in D-league

MANILA, Philippines - Batang BBL-University of Batangas extended its winning run to five games as it blasted B-Meg-SBC, 80-65, in the Nokia National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) D-League at the St. Bridget College gym in Batangas City. recently.

Although trailing for three-and-a-half quarters, BBL-UB leaned on John Arellano (11 points) and Julius Yap (nine points) to pull off the victory in the 18-and-under tournament backed by Nokia Philippines and TAO Corp. under the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas headed by Manny Pangilinan and executive director Noli Eala.

Batang BBL-UB now has a 5-0 record in the second round while B-Meg-SBC dropped to a 1-4 in the tournament also supported by San Miguel Purefoods Company, Smart Communications and Burlington.

The Lipa-based Smart team routed Ulam King, 98-60, for a 4-1 card. AJ Cubilla scored 17 points, Denoc Beltran had 16 points while Renzo Mojado added 14 points as Smart built a 20-point lead, 34-14, after the first quarter en route to victory. Ulam King took its fifth straight loss.

In Cagayan de Oro City, Smart-CdO and Oro Grande posted second straight wins each in the second playdate of the CdO leg at the Xavier University gym.

Smart-CDO beat B-MEG, 89-68, with Charvi Nemenzo leading the attack with 15 points. Jiovanni Jalaon and Jemerson Bucag added 13 points apiece. Rhodelle Nagac had 17 points, Francis Jabines made 15 points and Rosendo Aquino scored 12 points for B-MEG (0-2).

In the other game, Oro Grande (2-0) rapped Nutri-C (0-2), 88-79.
