Xavier completes six-game sweep
MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Xavier School swept the elimination round of the Freego-Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association (MMTLBA) tournament for the second straight year, completing the feat with a 91-55 rout of St. Jude Catholic School at the Chiang Kai Shek College gym in Tondo.
The Golden Stallions needed one big salvo late in the first quarter to break the game open and post their sixth straight win in the event presented by Fresh Gear Revolution Denim.
Jose Anton Manuel led the Golden Stallions with 19 points and six rebounds while Freego Player of the Game winner Jeron Teng tallied 17 points, seven assists and five rebounds.
Harold Ng had 10 points and Angelo Wongchuking chipped in nine markers, including two treys, and three assists to help Xavier extend their winning streak to 16 dating back to the 2008 championship.
In the other game of the tournament backed by Fern-C, 100 Plus Isotonic Sports Drink, Outlast Battery, Rusty Lopez, Puma, Converse, Burlington, Davis Paint, MEC Computer, Molten, Bantex Sandals and Bow & Wow the Natural Pets Food Store, Chiang Kai Shek College downed St. Stephen’s, 82-55.
Jon Ngo made all of his five attempts from the three-point area to finish with 16 points. He highlighted his game-long brilliance with a rare four-point play.
