Calamba, Alabang rule youth baseball

MANILA, Philippines - Calamba captured the 12-under crown while Alabang, dominated the 14-under division in the fifth Lifeline Rescue Kids Baseball Goodwill Games among 10 teams last weekend at the Alabang Country Club.

The tournament, which included teams from Jakarta, Indonesia and South Korea, was organized by the Alabang Baseball and Softball Club headed by Raul Martinez, the Junior Baseball and Softball Foundation of the Philippines with Christina Manzano as executive director and Pureplay Sports Management.

Calamba, which swept the elimination round with four wins, blanked Seoul in the semifinals while Alabang, which finished the elimination with a 3-1 slate, posted an easy 16-5 victory over Tanauan in the other semifinal match to set up a winner-take-all final. Calamba edged out Alabang, 6-3, for the title.

In the 14-under, Alabang won all its four elimination games, beat Agoncillo, 14-3, in the semifinals and crushed Lipa, 18-9, in the finals.

Agoncillo outclassed Jakarta, 11-8, for third.

The event was sponsored by Lifeline Rescue, Nuvoland Phils., Xcell Properties, Le Soleil de Boracay, Philcomsat, Max’s Restaurant, and Krispy Kreme, Shakey’s and Dunkin’ Donuts.

Tournament commissioner was Leslie Suntay while tournament director was Jeck Teofisto.

Other sponsors were Constellation Travels, Inc., Classique Interior Design, Gigawatt Power Inc. and Prudential Guarantee.
