Former champ leads 'B' finalists in Slasher Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Two-time World Slasher Cup champion Dicky Lim guns for his third WSC victory as he leads the Group B finalists in the WSC 8-Cock International Derby at the Araneta Coliseum today.

Lim, a former member of the Thunderbird Winning Team who reigned in the 2002 and 2006, will field in his LB Candelaria Apr 10 Winslet-ORC-2 entry, one of those who scored four points from the eliminations to the semis of the event, which drew a record 240 entries.

One hundred ten fights have been lined for today’s finals among the Group B semis winners in the event co-presented by the Pintakasi of Champions and Thunderbird Bexan XP. Fight time starts at 2 p.m.

This year’s edition of what has long been considered as “Olympics of Cockfighting” has drawn full-house crowds of derby aficionados since it opened last Jan. 18. Hundreds of foreign visitors also availed themselves of the free entrance offered by Big Dome owner Nene Araneta in his continuing effort to promote cockfighting as a unique tourist attraction in the country.

Joining Lim in the hunt for the crown with identical four points are Scorpion of Ohana/Chris/James; V-Tex of VG Lacson; AA OR-Tacloban-Antique-EDL of Brad Padgette & JY; and FBJ- 2 of Ferdie Buensalida.

Blue Blade Gamefarm owner and Swite (Sweater White) breeder Sonny Lagon, also a Thunderbird endorser, has 3.5 points courtesy of his entry Super Dave San Lorenzo. His two other entries Kieffer San Lorenzo and Victoria Kieffer San Lorenzo has 3 points and 2.5 points, respectively.

Also posting 3 wins and one draw are Kristina of Cano Daniel; Swing Tribute to Tony Tan of Tony Marfori; CMC Gamefarm of Cesar Calvo; Arnis Master King Arthur of Raymond Velayo; and Thunderbird- 4-Stingray of Nene Araneta and Ray Alexander.
