World slasher up at Big Dome
MANILA, Philippines - A record field of 260, led by defending champions Marcel Julao and Rey Morla, battles for supremacy in the 2010 World Slasher Cup Eight-Cock International Derby starting at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Araneta Coliseum.
The world’s best and finest sports-cockers are competing in the prestigious event hosted by Pintakasi of Champions and co-presented by Thunderbird Bexan XP and Sagupaan Complexor.
The four-day event starts with the first-half of the two-cock eliminations tomorrow. The other half is set Tuesday.
Julao and Morla, with entry MTJ Bros. Flash Bomba, seek to become the first cockers in 10 years to successfully defend the World Cup Slasher championship.
Peping Ricafort was the last to win back-to-back World Cup Slasher titles, doing the feat in 1999-2000.
Other prominent names carrying the local banner are Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, Nene Araneta, Sonny Lagon, Dicky Lim, Boy Marzo, Honey Yu, Edwin Aranez, Jesry Palmares, Cito Alberto, Bernie Tacoy, Cong. Rudy Albano, Boy Diaz, Biboy Enriquez, Patrick Antonio, Wilvin Sy, Boy Lechon, Manny Delipe, Eddie Araneta, Rey Briones, Claude Bautista, Wilson Ong and the father-and-son tandem of Ted and Nandie Pacheco.
The foreign contingent is led by the Hawaii-Guam group of Joe Tavares, fielding four entries.
