PNP netters retain crown

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) beat the Filipino-Chinese Table Tennis Association (FCTTA), 3-1, to retain the men’s team title in the second Philippine National Table Tennis Open Championship at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City over the weekend.

Quezon City blanked University of Santo Tomas (UST), 3-0, to capture the women’s team crown in the event, which drew more than 300 participants all over the country.

 In the men’s event, Berto Bas of Cebu upset 25th Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) bronze medal winner Richard Gonzales, 3-2, in the tournament organized by the Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP).

 Leonard De Leon of Green Paddle Caloocan City crushed Champ Nanaman of University of the Philippines, 3-0, for the men’s singles open plum, while Mabeth Compendio of Maasin, Leyte whipped Jennyca Sequena of UST, 3-1, to cop the women’s singles crown.
