Magpantay, Fong pace Chair Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Raul Magpantay and Manny Fong turned in solid rounds to seize the early lead in their respective divisions in the Manila Southwoods’ Chairman’s Charity Cup which got under way Saturday at the Masters and Legends courses of the Carmona, Cavite layout.

Magpantay, a 10-handicapper, shot a 79 at Legends worth 39 points under the Modified Stableford scoring system as he took the lead in Division I while Fong scored 40 points at Masters from a gross 87 to pace Division III in the two-day annual event which drew over 400 players from the club’s members and guests.

Jed Rosero and Doods Antipuesto carded identical 77s worth 44 points to share the lead in Division II of the tournament, sponsored by Mitsubishi Motors Phils. Corp./Diamond Motors Corp., Royal Caribbean/Baron Travel Korean Airlines Pacsports The Turf Company (Texas Eagle), with half of the competing field still to complete play Sunday.

Parouk Hussin shot a gross 91 worth 45 points to lead Group IV while Lydia Gomez (82) and Mee Hyang Kim (91) paced the Ladies I and II divisions with 44 and 43 points, respectively.

Ronnie Suarez made a 41 from a gross 78 to wrest the lead in Seniors I while Bernie Sevilla, Buddy Cabrera and Ed Pozon turned in identical 44s to share the lead in Seniors II.

Riza Uy and Raphael Juan each fired net 73s to show the way in the guest/sponsors division of the tournament backed by GRM Fast Food Services, Manila Southwoods Manor, Meridian Equipment, Metro Rail Transit, PLDT, Poblador, Bautista & Reyes Law Offices, Promise Land Trading, RCNA Concessionaire & Catering Services, Red Eagle Lending Investors Corp., Ritzgolf Romago, Inc., Sherwood Hills Golf Club and The French Corner.
