Anton completes big season with autocross overall crown
MANILA, Philippines - Baguio City’s Carlos Anton wrapped up another perfect season as he captured the overall crown in the 2009 Philippine Autocross Championship at the Macapagal Hi-way track in Pasay City recently.
Banking on his Honda CRX “Green Monster”, Anton clocked the day’s best time of 49.44 seconds to beat TJ Pangilinan of Cabspeed racing, who challenged Anton all day aboard his fully prepared EK Honda.
Anton also topped the Race of Champions against Davao winner Hernel Jao, thus stamping his mark as the country’s top driver.
Jao turned in a 1:00.68 clocking in his final run while Anton timed 58.28 seconds to win the crown for the Mark Young-Yokohama team backed by Hornitex laminated flooring, Autoshack, Total Fuels and Lubricants, Home-Outlet and Sizzling Plate Restaurants.
“We had a good run this year in Autocross and Hillclimb racing with the Mark Young-Yokohama team. We won every race we joined so we really can’t ask for anything more,” Anton said.
Meanwhile, Anton also topped eight divisions and won all three Best Time of the day awards in the invitational round of the Slalom Series in La Union last month.
“I have not really raced slaloms since 1993, but it is where I started and it was nice to know I’m still competitive after 16 years,” said Anton.
