Doves, Stallions stay at helm

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion St. Francis of Assisi College and newcomer Manuel L. Quezon University scored back-to-back wins to remain on top of the senior basketball division of the Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (UCLAA) Season 2 at the San Andres gym in Manila recently.

Don Delos Santos fired 13 points to lead the St. Francis to a 66-51 rout of Philippine College of Criminology last Wednesday. The Doves then defeated host National College of Business and Arts, 82-76, last Friday at the start of the second round elims.

The MLQU Stallions matched the Doves’ 5-1 slate with victories over De Ocampo Memorial College, 79-67, and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, 71-64.

MLQU, meanwhile, seeks the solo lead as it plays PCCr at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

In junior play, guest squad King’s Montessori School stunned defending champion PCCr, 95-94, last Wednesday. PCCr held on to the lead despite its first loss in four starts.

KMS shares second spot with NCBA at 2-1 while St. Francis barged into the win column after three tries with an 81-66 whipping of Muntinlupa Science High School, also a guest team.

The second season of UCLAA is being supported by Mang Inasal, Villa de Oro, Magarbo, www.gameface.ph, Air21, Ever Bilena, Picture City, Magnolia, Basketbolista Magazine and Besuto prawn crackers.

In other seniors matches, Metro Manila College nipped De Ocampo, 78-77, to improve to a second-best 4-3 mark.

PCCr is in third place at 3-3, NCBA and De Ocampo occupy fourth spot at 2-4 while PLMun is still at the cellar at 1-6.
