St. Vincent teams gain quarterfinals

MANILA, Philippines - St. Vincent School sent two teams into the quarterfinal round at the end of the eliminations over the weekend in the Mayor Alfredo Lim Manila Inter-Barangay and Inter-School 3-on-3 Basketball Championship at the San Andres Complex in Ermita, Manila.

St. Vincent School 1 topped Group B with a 5-0 (win-loss) mark, even as St. Vincent School 3 posted the same record in clinching the top spot in Group D of the tournament.

Led by the high-scoring pair of Sesedleo Jose Gabo and Wesley Nolan Bautista, St. Vincent 1 swept past Lourdes School of Mandaluyong 2, 12-11, School of St. Anthony 2, 14-10, St. Mary’s School 1, 14-10, ICS, 17-14 and Diliman Preparatory School, 14-8.

Lourdes School of Mandaluyong 2, which compiled a 4-1 card, losing only to St. Vincent 1, also made it to the eight-team quarterfinals, the semifinals and the championship, which will be held at the Dapitan Sports Complex on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Mayor Lim, Vice-Mayor Isko Moreno and Manila Sports Council chairman Niño dela Cruz were invited as special guests and award the trophies and cash prizes to the winners.

St. Vincent 3, meanwhile, also completed a shutout, beating schoolmates St. Vincent 2, 16-10, St. Mary’s School 2, 10-8, Lourdes School of Mandaluyong 1, 10-8 and Balingasa High School 2, 12-9.

Lourdes 1 made it to the No. 2 spot on a 4-1 record.

Joining the two St. Vincent teams are Group A qualifiers Sergio Osmeña High School (5-0) and Balingasa High School 1 (4-1) and Group D qualifiers School of St. Anthony (5-0) and E. Rondon High School 1 (4-1).

In the inter-barangay division, Bgy. 208 of Abad Santos, Bgy. 101 Tenement, Pitas, North Harbor, Bgy. 276 of Binondo, Manila and Bgy. 105 Maginoo St., Tondo comprise the first four qualifiers from Group 1.

The next 10 teams will slug it out for the next top four slots when they see action on Saturday at the Delpan Sports Complex in Delpan, Manila.
