Tayabas fighters shine in ABAP tilt

TAYABAS, Quezon , Philippines  – Tayabas showed promise as one of the country’s top producers of quality fighters when one of its two teams garnered the most medals at the conclusion of the Smart-ABAP Luzon Amateur Boxing Championships here.

Tayabas-A, ably supported by Vice Mayor Brando Rea won six golds, which tied perennial contender Puerto Princesa-B’s own haul. Tayabas however had the most number of silver medals..

The most anticipated Finals bout Sunday night gave Tayabas enough reason to claim their share of national awareness as 51kg fighter Neco Magliquian scored a resounding first round Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) win over one of Puerto Princesa’s top bets Dave Aselo.

Bicol-A was not far behind in winning medals as it grabbed five golds, the most spectacular of which was the 14-12 win of Jomaric Deliarte over local boy Mark Anthony Rago.
