Short course swim lures regions' best

MANILA, Philippines - Over a thousand swimmers from various regions will see action in the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (PASA) National Short Course Swimming Championships which begins tomorrow at the Trace Aquatic Center in Los Baños, Laguna.

The qualifiers will come from the 17 G-Leagues swim meets that PASA has conducted nationwide since August this year with more than 800 swimmers already registered.

Listup is still ongoing.

“We are proud of all the teams and coaches from all over the Philippines who have participated in our G-Leagues swim meets and are now ready to test their swimmers’ skills level against the best from other regions. We started our G league, which stands for Grassroots and PASA’s theme of Growth, to serve as qualifying tournament for this biggest gathering of top local swimmers,” said PASA president Mark Joseph.

Events on tap are the 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 & above years old with both individual and team awards to be presented to the top finishers.

This will also be the first time that the bulk heads of Trace will be used to divide the 50m. pool into two 25m. pools to be able to hold simultaneous world-class short course races the first time.

The event will also see the use of Colorado timing system touch pads to ensure that it meets all FINA competition standards.

Meanwhile, PASA is also holding on Nov 27 the first PASA Technical Congress, which will determine the major directions and programs of Philippine swimming.
