Kaikkonen, Calderon shine in PPCC
MANILA, Philippines - The Ford-Tuason Racing wrapped up the season with another impressive feat behind rookie drivers Veli-Matti Kaikkonen and Cebuano Manger Calderon recently in the championship leg of the Philippine Production Car Championship at the Subic Raceway.
Kaikkonen, from Finland, placed second in Rounds 11 and 12 for the Ford-TRS Racing powered by Ford Racing, Goodyear Racing, Standard Insurance, OMP, Discovery Suite, Yellow Cab Pizza, Aguila Auto Glass, BusinessWorld, C! Magazine, Fremuff, Dupont, Starbright Bodykits, Ultra Racing, Toptul, Orange Electronics, Rota Wheels, K&N, Unichip and Philippine Auto Club.
It was a big improvement for Kaikkonen, the 2001 Thailand AIM Concept Car Race Series champion, who wound up with spills and misfortunes in the past two legs.
Calderon, a former jetski champ and top motocross rider, clinched third in Round 11 despite a busted bumper and pulled a repeat in Round 12.
The feat installed Calderon as the overall second runner-up for the season.
“We’re right on track. Many doubted the team’s chances in this series but both Calderon and Kaikkonen put up a good fight and proved the championship racing heritage of the Ford Focus,” said TRS president JP Tuason.
