Tierro, Reyes sink PCA Open foes
MANILA, Philippines - Second seed Patrick John Tierro whipped Juliu Kraut, 6-0, 6-2, while Mark Reyes held off Celestino Solon, 6-1, 7-5, in the second round of the Philippine Columbian Association Open at the PCA indoor courts in Plaza Dilao, Manila yesterday.
Tierro, a member of the RP team seeing action in next month’s Southeast Asian Games in Laos, needed just a little more than an hour to dispose of his rival and advance to the next round of this annual tournament featuring the country’s top and rising netters.
Reyes, a Filipino based in Italy, likewise made his presence felt as he bundled out Solon to arrange a third round match against the winner between the Pop Sabandon-Kenneth Salvo duel.
Tierro, meanwhile, goes up against the winner between Gilbert Estrada and Joel Palao.
Junior Davis Cup veteran Francis Casey Alcantara, who trampled qualifier Gregorio Deofilo, 6-0, 6-2, in the first round over the weekend, whitewashed Kyle Cordero, 6-0, 6-0. He will take on the winner between seventh seed Ronard Joven and Chung Soo Han.
