Gomez sinks US rival, rules Pacmania 9-ball

-

MANILA, Philippines - Roberto Gomez trounced American Mark Haddad, 9-5, in the finals to complete a sweep of the Manny Pacquiao’s Pacmania Open 9-Ball tournament at the Hard Times Billiards Center in Bellflower, California over the weekend.

The feat was worth $3,000 for the former World Pool Championship finalist from the total prize pool of $10,000 put up by Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao through his Pacman Promotion and the Manny Pacquiao Darts Association.

It was actually a charity event wherein the proceeds will go to the Manny Pacquiao Foundation, particularly in its relief effort for the victim of the recent typhoons that hit the Philippines.

The winner of the tournament was supposed to play Pacquiao in an exhibition match, but the boxing superstar failed to make it in time for the event.

Pacquiao is currently in the thick of preparations for his upcoming fight with Miguel Cotto on Nov. 14 (Nov. 15 in Manila).

Haddad, a native of Denver, Colorado, settled for the runner-up purse worth $1,500, while Mexican Oscar Dominguez, whom Gomez defeated in the semifinals, 7-5, took the third place honors worth $1,000.
