Tribal games slated in Clark

MANILA, Philippines - At least 75 tribesmen from Mindoro, Quezon and Pampanga will vie for top honors in the inaugural Philippine Olympic Committee (POC)-ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) Mangyan-Aeta-Dumagat (MAD) “Tribal Games” finals on Nov. 6 at Clark Freeport Picnic Grounds in Mabalacat, Pampanga.

Aeta tribesman Dumlao Nabal takes on challenger Mangyan’s Abel Malinao and Dumagat native Balaybay Aumentado in “Gintong Pana” archery event. Tarlac native Bernard Santos and Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro-based Reynaldo Panagsagan will compete against frontrunner Marlon Luna of Dumagat ethnic group in the javelin spear throwing event “Palakasan ng Sibat”.

Philippine Soft Tennis Association (PSTA) president and Tribal Games head Col. Jeff Tamayo said the champions in the one-day event will get cash gifts and medals. Events on tap are archery standing, sitting position and squatting positions, archery assault course, javelin spear throwing and 3km foot race.
