San Andres, 2 others gain PCA Open semis

MANILA, Philippines - Top seeds Christian San Andres, Hans Asistio and Mimo Tomacruz advanced to the semifinal round in their respective divisions in the 28th Philippine Columbian Association Open at Plaza Dilao, Paco recently.

San Andres whitewashed Spenser Sagrado’s bid, 6-0, 6-0, to arrange a semis duel with unseeded Vince Salas, who won by default in the boys’ 12-under.

In the boys’ 14-under, Asistio outclassed Lawrence Mariano, 6-0, 6-3, to set up a Final Four showdown with No. 7 A.J. Cano. Calvin Canlas and Jorou Librodo meet in the other semis pairing.

Tomacruz trounced Joseph Tiamson, 6-0, 6-1, in the unisex 10-under. He will next face unheralded Manuel Balce III.

Raphael Teng beat Alexis Bangayan, 6-1, 6-2, to set up a semis clash with Bianca Cruz, who blanked Frances Santiago, 6-0, 6-0.

Mao delos Reyes produced the lone upset in the day when he thumped top-seed Juan Cansino, 6-3, 6-4, in the boys’ 16-under category.

He advanced to the next round against third seed Jurence Mendoza, who defeated John Victoria, 6-1, 6-1.
