STAR shuttlers keep Yonex-Sunrise title

-

MANILA, Philippines - Shuttlers of The Philippine STAR turned back Robinsons Land to retain the title in the corporate category of the 2009 Yonex-Sunrise Philippines National Open Badminton Championships yesterday.

In a familiar fashion, STAR shuttlers took two consecutive matches to overcome Robinsons Land, which also placed second last year.

The ladies doubles pair of Dalia Santiago and Rina Batuigas won the first match, 21-16, 21-11. The two also later went on to defend their title in the Seniors A individual category.

The mixed doubles pair of Edison Cupcupin and Melody Villaceran closed the final event with a 21-17, 21-12 victory in just 22 minutes. They later bagged the runner-up award in the Open category.

On its way to the final, The STAR team defeated PLDT in the quarterfinal and RCBC in the semifinal.

Other members of The STAR team are Dodie Gutierrez, Syl Cosico, Glenn Padpad, Edu Punay, Analyn Delgado and Mylene Amahit.
