Miriam, AUF, UST belles win
MANILA, Philippines - Miriam upstaged University of the East, 25-16, 25-20, in the ongoing Shakey’s Girls’ Volleyball League.
Miriam banked on the heroics of Rica Espinola, Nell Saclot and Erika Velasquez who put together 24 points to for a 2-1 slate in Group A’s Bracket B.
Angeles University continued its winning streak beating Paco Catholic College, 25-10, 25-17. Mariel Sinamban and Victoria Galang dished out six kills each supported by Pat Anunciacion’s 4 blocks. The trio put together 28 points to give AUF solo leaders in Group A’s Bracket A.
UST’s Alyssa Valdez and Kim Fajardo provided the fire power with 22 points and eight kills to beat MGC New Life Academy, 25-10, 25-14.
San Antonio de Padua dealt University of the East its second straight loss Sunday, 25-21, 25-18. Top scoring for SADP were Rialin Sante, Charmaine de la Cruz and Kathlene Magumbo with 23 points. The win gave SADP a 4-0 slate assuring them of a quarterfinals berth.
In other results it was UPIS over St. Mary’s College, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, and OB Montessori Greenhills over Southville Int’l School, 30-28, 21-25, 25-9.
In Cebu, the Shakey’s GVL-Cebu leg opened Sunday at the Lapu-lapu Sports Complex. Defending champion, Pajo Nat’l School beat Don Geraldo Nat’l School, 25-10, 25-18. Pajo’s Athena Sucalit, Catherine Marquez and Danica Molina contributed 27, with six kills by Athena Sucalit.
