'RunRio Trilogy' featured in Timex run

-

MANILA, Philippines - The 2009 Timex Run firing off Nov. 15 will serve as a prelude to the first-ever “RunRio Trilogy,” a three-leg circuit spread over five months to be highlighted by the 32km Afroman run in the third and final stage.

Organizers of the event, sponsored by Timex, expect a huge field vying for top honors in four events, including the 3K, 5K, 10K and 21K, at the Bonifacio High Street in Global City, Taguig with cash prizes and fabulous gift items at stake.

The RunRio Triology, conceptualized by noted running coach Rio de la Cruz to give marathon hopefuls the chance to race at their full-marathon pace, will start Dec. 6 at Daang Hari in Las Piñas, with Global City hosting the second leg on Feb. 21 before winding up again at Daang Hari on April 11 featuring the keenly-awaited 32K Afroman run.

Dubbed “Time is Running: The 2009 Timex Run with coach Rio and Piolo Pascual,” the Timex Run also features TV/movie star Piolo Pascual, Mark Bautista, and other celebrity endorsers of the world’s leading watch brand.

De la Cruz appeared in the weekly PSA Forum at the Shakey’s UN Ave. branch along with Avinash Uttamchadani, general manager of Newtrends Int’l Corp, distributor of Timex, and Robinson Land Corp. executives Belle Austria and Tess Miranda.

“We would like to encourage all runners, especially the beginners to take part in the event that also supports the promotion of a healthy lifestyle,” said De La Cruz.

Uttamchadani said Timex’s commitment to the runfest is unlimited, even hinting that organizers may consider putting up a full 42-k run in future stagings of the meet.

Registration is ongoing at various Timex shops (SM Mall of Asia, SM North Edsa, Glorieta 3, SM Megamall, and SM Southmall) Robinsons Land showrooms (Amisa showroom, Robinsons Place Manila; Grand showroom, Robinsons Galleria; Trion Towers, Fort Bonifacio Global City), and Nike Park, Bonifacio High Street. For details, contact Rio de la Cruz at 0918-9859211. List-up ends Nov. 9.

Spicing up the event is a photo contest offering P10,000 in total prizes and Timex watches.

Backing up the event are Robinsons Land Corp., Nature Valley Granola Bar, 100 Plus Isotonic Sports Drink, Summit Mineral Water, Nesvita Cereal Milk Drink and Nike.
