Brazil, Germany, UAE move to U-20 quarterfinals
MANILA, Philippines - Brazil, Germany and UAE made their mark as they advanced in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt with perennial favorite Brazil overpowering Uruguay, 3-1, and UAE beating Venezuela, 2-1. The 10-man German team showed grit and determination in eliminating Nigeria, 3-2.
Brazil coach Rogerio Lourenco described the game as “a classic match between the two best teams in South America” and added that Uruguay is indeed an excellent squad that pushed his team to perform extraordinarily.
“Brazil has high quality players, especially in attack. They are certainly the favorites to win the trophy,” said Diego Aguirre of Uruguay, showing sportsmanship at the end of the match.
UAE’s Ahmed Khalil scored a late goal to put the UAE ahead of Venezuela in the Round of 16.
The first semifinal match of the event will be aired on Balls Tuesday at 10 p.m. while the second semis showdown will be held Wednesday at 1:30 a.m. The finals is slated Oct. 17, at 1:30 a.m.
