BK Whopper jersey awaits Japeth - Alvarez

MANILA, Philippines - Burger King is preparing a BK Whopper uniform for Japeth Aguilar, remaining hopeful it can sign up the controversial player before the opening of the new PBA season on Sunday.

“Don’t be surprised he’ll play for us Sunday,” said BK top official and PBA board chair Lito Alvarez, banking on the words of SBP executive director Noli Eala.

“Noli Eala has issued a statement that they will not sign up Japeth until he’s resolved his problem with us. We’ll wait for Japeth. His uniform will be there,” Alvarez also said.

Alvarez said he was informed the Smart people were to discuss Aguilar’s case last night.

“Noli has called us in the PBA as ‘kakampi.’ We’ve shown a unified force during the charity event last Monday. I still believe this Japeth problem will be resolved. The SBP is the key,” said Alvarez.

If Aguilar signs up with Burger King, Alvarez said he’ll allow the 6-foot-9 behemoth to play for BK and Smart Gilas.

“He wants exposure, we’ll give it to him. He’ll enjoy the best of both worlds playing in the PBA and with the national team,” Alvarez said.

If Aguilar doesn’t sign, the PBA top honcho said the player will be barred to play for Smart Gilas in its guest stint in the Philippine Cup.  – Nelson Beltran
