UST, HCHS spikers prevail

MANILA, Philippines - Reigning UAAP Girls’ junior volley champions University of Santo Tomas beat Paco Catholic School, 25-16, 25-20, in the Shakey’s Girls’ Volleyball League recently.

Veterans Alyssa Valdez and Kim Fajardo combined with rookies Alyja Santiago, Almira Lajara and Anjanette Aguirre for 24 points for the victory. Paco Catholic School took its third straight loss in Group A, Bracket A of the tournament backed by Toby’s Sports, Mikasa, Asics and Mighty Sports.

In Bracket B, Hope Christian HS defeated De La Salle Zobel, 25-22, 25-21.

La Salle actually raced to a 5-0 lead in the second set but Hope Christian HS, behind Denden Tan, Carol Cerveza and Rica Enclona, put its act together and fought back to force a 14-all and 19-all ties before scoring six of the last eight points for the win.
