Criterium GP races fires off Sunday

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Road Bike Phils-711 Manila Criterium Grand Prix kicks off on Sunday with a big field expected to see action in the revival of cycling circuit competitions at Rizal Park.

Manila Sports Council chairman Nino dela Cruz and Roadbike Phils. president Bong Sual will flag off the riders at 8 a.m. in the event sponsored by Fuji Excellent Noodles, Oishi and Columbia outdoor gear and equipment.

“It is always an honor and pleasure to hold these big cycling contests in Manila,” Dela Cruz said.

“It is our pleasure to be part of this criterium series which serves as a venue for our top and upcoming riders to hone their skills,” said Sual.

According to events director Ric Rodriguez, the start/finish line will be at Maria Orosa with the riders traveling through an inverted “P” route in the event backed by Francia wines, Gatorade, Suunto Summit and the Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation Cycling Group.

“While we will have wide lanes, the turns in this route may prove crucial. Expect a lot of tactical races,” Rodriguez said.

Events on tap are the All-FilChi, 25-years-and-below, 26-to-35 years, 36-to-45 years, 46-to-55, and 56-above and Open elite Pro categories.
