WTF officials to hold taekwondo referee seminar

MANILA, Philippines - The World Taekwondo Federation has given the Philippine Taekwondo Association the go-signal to host the Smart world taekwondo referee seminar and refresher course today until Sunday at the Diamond Hotel along Roxas Boulevard, Manila.

Three WTF officials – Kisma Kim, Myung Ok Yu and Zhao Lei – will conduct the refs’ seminar and refresher course for kyorugi (sparring), according to PTA president Robert Aventajado.

Around 124 referees, including 24 Filipinos, will attend the event starting at 9:30 a.m.

The Filipino instructors who aspire to become international referees are expected to benefit from the event.

The WTF experts will update participants on the new rules and regulations in the sport.

The four-day event will also prepare the referees for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) and the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

“This is a big boost for local taekwondo because our athletes will get to know immediately the new rules covering the sport, which has a wide base nationwide, particularly in the grassroots level,” said Aventajado.
