Fun run kicks off UE foundation week

-

MANILA, Philippines - University officials, alumni and students joined hands in UE Fun Run 2009, kicking off week-long celebrations of the University of the East’s 63rd founding anniversary yesterday at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

UE president Ester Albano Garcia, executive vice president Carmelita Mateo, marketing department executive director Jesus Tanchanco Sr., and director for administrative services and UE Fun Run 2009 chairman Antonio de Guzman were joined in the early morning run by UE alumni led by Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim (UE BBA 1951 and UE LLB 1963) and Teresita Dominguez-Abundo (UE BSE 1971), a former commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission and currently consultant of UE’s Department of Physical Education.

The contestants and attendees included officials, faculty members, management employees, rank and file personnel, and students of UE’s Manila and Caloocan campuses.

The event was highlighted with “Pugay Silangan,” a cheerdance presentation-cum-contest held right before the actual running competition.

It featured various personnel and student groups from the UE community and aimed at further fostering harmony and camaraderie among the university’s constituents.

UE’s anniversary theme, “UE at 63: Remembering, Celebrating, Envisioning”, also ushers in another year of commitment to academic excellence and will run on the university’s Manila and Caloocan campuses Sept. 20-Oct. 30.

The celebration features a variety of activities highlighting UE’s milestones while it looks back to its humble beginnings and storied past and defines its commitment to the future.
