LCC smothers Miriam, makes senior B finals

MANILA, Philippines - La Consolacion College Manila frustrated Miriam College, 63-52, to barge into the Senior B finals against University of Asia and the Pacific in the 40th WNCAA tournament at the St. Scholastica gym over the weekend.

The LCCM Blue Royals, banking on Hazel Mangabat and Joanna Rose Licuanan who combined for 29 points, also secured a promotion to Senior A next season.

In Senior B volleyball at the RTU gym, UA&P sent a second team to the championship after it downed St. Scholastica’s College, 31-29, 20-25, 25-23, 25-23.

Junior basketball action on Saturday saw defending champion Miriam and comebacking Chiang Kai Shek College remain unbeaten in five starts to keep joint leadership.

Miriam mercilessly dealt Philippine Women’s University an 89-4 beating while 38th season winner CKSC, whick took a leave of absence last season, drubbed host Angelicum College, 80-68.

Rookie St. Jude Catholic School nipped San Beda College Alabang, 38-37, to stay in second spot at 4-1.

Angelicum dropped into a three-way for third place with De La Salle Zobel and St. Stephen’s High School at 3-2.

DLSZ upended sister school La Salle College, 67-35, and SSHS bested St. Scholastica, 55-38.

The 40th WNCAA is being supported by Monster Radio RX 93.1, Goody, IBC 13, Manila Bulletin, Sports Digest, Muscle Tape, Burlington BioFresh, MJC Press and Macgraphics Carranz.

In Day 2 of futsal action, Miriam blanked La Salle, 3-0, and defending champion DLSZ walloped Angelicum 17-0 in the opener of juniors action.

 In seniors matches, Rizal Technological University stopped PWU, 4-2, for a league-leading 2-0-0 slate; Emilio Aguinaldo College stunned defending champion Miriam, 8-6; and UA&P escaped past CEU, 3-1.
