MANILA, Philippines - Yang Ching-shun dished out a near-flawless game to post a 25-19 lead over Dennis Orcollo halfway through their one-on-one match billed as Face Off Series 2-One More Time at Club Capo Exclusive in Tomas Morato Avenue, Quezon City last Tuesday.
The Taiwanese displayed superb pocketing and control of the cue-ball as he bounced back from an early three-rack deficit to seize the initiative in the two-day contest organized by Club Capo Exclusive in cooperation with Bugsy Promotions and JBET.net.
Orcollo, who lost to Yang in their first encounter in 2007, raced to a 10-7 lead after winning the lag. But he missed a tough shot on the 7-8 combination, enabling Yang to snatch the 18th rack before taking the next three to wrest the lead.
“He played a great game and he took advantage of my errors. I also had trouble in getting the right stroke on the break,” said Orcollo of Bugsy Promotions of businessman Perry Mariano.
“But it’s still manageable and I’m still confident that I can overcome,” added the former world No. 1.
Orcollo pocketed the 22nd frame to tie the match at 11. But Yang took the next two racks to stay on top.
The Taiwanese kept the two-point lead in the next 12 racks then pounced on another Orcollo miscue to stretch the lead.
The winner of the duel will get $10,000.
Meanwhile, Club Capo Exclusive will stage another blockbuster match after the Orcollo-Yang face off, pitting pool icon Efren “Bata” Reyes against fellow Asian pool legend Chao Fong-pang of Taiwan in October.
Also lined up is a match pitting former double world champions Ronnie Alcano and Ralf Souquet of Germany.
The series is supported by the Philippine Olympic Committee-backed Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines headed by president Arturo “Bong” Ilagan, the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines, Puyat Sports, Negros Billiards Stable, Jaguar and Optimax.
