Calderon outshines top rivals in Subic PPCC

MANILA, Philippines - Cebuano Manger Calderon scored a big feat for the TRS-Ford following his impressive finishes in the second leg of the Philippine Production Car Championship recently at the Subic International Raceway.       

Calderon, a former jetski champ and top motocross rider, bagged the runner-up honors in both Race 4 and Race 5 up against veteran and more experienced rivals with the big support of Ford Racing, Goodyear Racing, Standard Insurance, OMP, Discovery Suite, Yellow Cab, Aguila Auto Glass, BusinessWorld, C! Magazine, Fremuff, Dupont, Starbright Bodykits, Ultra Racing. Toptul, Orange Electronics, Rota Wheels, K&N, Unichip, Philippine Auto Club.

It was a huge improvement for Calderon despite being a rookie driver racing only for the second time in the event, proving the superiority and racing excellence of the Ford Focus especially in the rain.        

He staged a big rally in Race 4 to end up second behind more experienced Doby Atilano, clocking a fastest lap time of 1:38.3 in the 12-lap race.

He turned more aggressive in Race 5, finishing behind winner Doby Atilano.

With the feat, Calderon now moved up second overall in the Philippine Production Car Championship.

Teammate Veli-Mati Kaikkonen, the 2001 AIM Concept Car Race Series champion held in Bira , Thailand , also had a great startbut spun out while chasing more experienced Atilano.

 “We’re proud of Calderon’s big improvement powered by the championship racing heritage of the Ford Focus. With his feat, we expect him to follow the footsteps of Stuart MacDonald as the heir-apparent of the Rookie of the Year and Top Novice plums only on his first year of competiive racing,” said TRS president JP Tuason.
