Ledesma, Sy rule Binay table tennis

MANILA, Philippines - Ting Ledesma snared the men’s open singles title, while Jamaica Sy retained her two crowns in the third leg of the Binay Cup National Age-Group table tennis championship over the weekend at the Koliseyum ng Bayan in Makati.

Ledesma absorbed a 6-11 and 7-11 scores in the first two sets before scoring 13-11, 11-6, 11-9 in the last three sets to post the amazing come-from-behind win over Celjun Ortalla of Huaching.

Ortalla tried to match Ledesma’s short spins at the left side in the fifth set but could not break it that wasted his two sets advantage in the event supported by Makati City, Gatorade, Joola and Philippine Table Tennis Development Union (PTTDU).

Sy, a second leg winner representing Filipino-Chinese, kept the girl’s singles 12 and 14-under titles after whipping Angelica Sanchez of ELFTTC and Jobelle Bonzon of UST, respectively.

The child wonder Sy swept Sanchez and Bonzon to keep her title in the event with by 650 participants from different provinces like Laguna, Mindoro, Iloilo and Baguio, among other places not only Metro Manila.

Cruz beat veteran Peter Francisco of Makati, 11-6, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9, to rule the men’s non-rank singles event supported by Makati City Administrator Marjorie De Veyra and councilor Junjun Binay.

Cruz won the boy’s 17-and-under singles title by tripping Julius Martin Vista, 11-7, 12-10, 11-8. Sendrina Balatbat defeated Crisanta Abas of Table Tennis Association of North District (TATAND), 6-11, 11-8, 11-5, 14-12, to win the women’s open title.   

Joma Sibal of Saint Martins beat fellow schoolmate Rowena Morales, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-8, to snare the women’s open non-rank singles title, and then gained the girl’s 17-and-under crown against same opponent after scoring 11-9, 11-7, 11-8.

Lanky Karl Boldado of San Beda upset Daniel Cua, 4-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-8, to win the boy’s 14-and-under crown, while Cua defeated David Reyes of PATTO, 11-9, 11-5, 11-6, for the boy’s 12-and-under crown.

Nico Camiling of Saint Martins won the boy’s 10-and-under crown by besting Isaac Eneria of SVES, 12-10, 11-8, 11-9 and Angelica Sanchez bashed Krisha Jade Pelaez, 11-8, 11-8, 11-5, for the girl’s 10-and-under crown.
