Boomland hosts karting series leg

-

MANILA, Philippines - The 2009 Magnolia Pure Water Karting Super Series stages its sixth and penultimate leg at the equally challenging Boomland Kart Track this weekend at the CCP Complex in Pasay City.

Three Ready2Race karters – Joey Orduna, Roby Benito and Juha Turalba – try to fortify their title quests in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Magnolia Pure Water, San Miguel Corp., Petron, Denso, Motorstar and Aeromed.

Despite finishing only third at the Enchanted Kingdom, Orduna is on track in his bid to become the first karter to win both the coveted Karter-of- the-Year and Junior-Karter-of-the-Year awards.

Orduna, 13, leads the ROK overall class with 256 points and the ROK Junior division with 300.

But Benito is just close behind and is looking forward to his third consecutive triumph after topping both the RP leg of the Asian Karting Open Championship in Carmona and the fifth leg at the Enchanted Kingdom.

He’s 42 points behind with 214 in the ROK Overall class and just 14 points behind in the ROK Junior division with 286.

Turalba, on the other hand, is fresh from his victory in the Asian Karting Open leg in Indonesia and is not far behind in the Karter-of-the-Year race with 211 points.

Javi Benitez of Jet Racing, Andres Calma of Full Throttle-San Miguel Corp., Cebuano Patrick Gandionco and defending champion Stefano Marcelo of TonyKart-San Miguel Corp.-Marcelo Racing are the other chalengers.

Benitez is back on track following his runner-up finish in the last leg.

as he moves up fourth overall with 158 while Calma and Gandionco follow with 129 and 104 points respectively.

Marcelo, back in the country from his European stints, is reportedly joining the race and will try to reassert his supremacy.

Also favored in the other races are Indy Villalon and Joseph Castelar of AUTS Racing, and Von Medrano of PCR-Toigh Gear Racing.

Villalon seeks to keep his lead in the Formula SL Expert class against Castelar and VJ Suba of PCR-Tough Gear.

Castelar hopes to stay on top of the ROK Heavy race against Gandionco while Medrano will try to preserve his hold of the lead in the Formula SL Heavy class over AUTS Racing rivals Archie Rubio and Mike Fox.
