-

Los Baños , Philippines  – The defending champion Universal College Dragons and the Colegio Sta. Monica Cougars pulled off convincing wins the other day to boost their semifinal bids in the eighth Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA) men’s basketball tournament at the Trace College gymnasium here.

The Dragons banked on their outside shooting midway in the third quarter as they put away the Philippine School of Business Administration Jaguars, 66-60, for their fourth straight victory.

The Dragons grabbed the solo lead after the Colegio St. Monica Cougars outplayed an off-form and erstwhile leader Technological Institute of the Philippines Engineers, 68-61.

BJ Faundo touched off an 18-6 run in the last four minutes of third period with a pair of triples as the Dragons bounced back from a 30-32 deficit and took the upperhand for good at the end of the period, 46-36.

JV Ferreria showed the way for the Dragons with 16 points, while Cedric Matugas had 12 points, all on triples.
