MANILA, Philippines - Jonathan Tiu completed another career milestone as he formally bagged an unprecedented sixth consecutive overall plum recently in the culmination of the 2009 San Mig Coffee National Drag Racing Championship-National Trophy Series at the Clark International Speedway here.
Tiu wrapped up his campaign with 60 points behind four big wins that also captured the overall Quick 8 crown of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by San Miguel Corp., Pilipinas Shell, San Mig Coffee, Yokohama, PagCor, Aeromed and Stoplight TV.
Too bad, rainshowers denied him the chance to shatter his very own exisiting Clark International Speedway all-time fastest quarter-mile record of 9.223 seconds as the slippery track forced organizers to postpone the high-speed action in the Quick 8 and Pro class divisions.
Nevertheless, he was very happy with the feat.
“I share this title with my fellow drivers and the hardworking crew of our JCT-Blanche Racing team as we try to further work on achieving sports excellence in the field of drag racing,” said Tiu.
Actually, JCT-Blanche Racing swept all the titles behind Ed Christian Go in the Pro class, Jonathan Young in the Expert division, Jon Sarmineto in the Sportsman Class and first female Drag Racing champ Jeannette Go in the Hotstreet division.
