Southwoods retains WGAP Luzvimin title
MANILA, Philippines - Manila Southwoods closed out with a 242 and completed its back-to-back title romp in the WGAP-Luzvimin golf tournament with top player Regina de Guzman keeping the overall individual crown at the Fairways and Bluewater in Boracay last Friday.
De Guzman fired 55 Molave points to fuel Southwoods’ final round charge in the 54-hole tournament as the Carmona-based squad pooled a 741 aggregate for a 52-point victory over Alabang in the Diamond division of the annual event organized by the Women’s Golf Association of the Phils.
Lora Roberto had 51 points while Katrina Gonzales, Beachie Abiera and Claire Ong tossed in 48, 46 and 42 points, respectively, while Claudine Garcia and Sandy Velhagen turned in 35 and 32 points but didn’t count in the seven-to-play, five-to-count format tournament.
Alabang drew 52 points from Geleen Handog, to finish with a 231-689 for second while Del Monte placed third with a 674 after a 223. Other scorers for Alabang were Rita Horan (47), Lorna Tabuena (46), Marilyn Reyes (45) and Marjorie Lopinco (41), while Lovelyn Guioguio (49), Marian Woo (48), Kristine Leonen (45), Eva Miñoza (45) and Pamela Soriano (36) rounded up scoring for Del Monte.
Camp Aguinaldo placed fourth with 645 after a 217 followed by Sta. Elena (183-572), Tagaytay Highlands (180-569) and Fairways and Bluewater (155-469).
With De Guz,man retaining the overall individual title with a 163 total, Handog took the championship crown with a 160. Fairways and Bluewater’s Liezl Mohn shot 46 points for a 141 then nipped Karen Kime of Aguinaldo (46) in the countback to clinch the Class A plum. Baguio’s Sonia Bruce had a 117 after a 36 to cop the Class B diadem while Mae Llewelyn, also of Fairways and Bluewater, took the Class C crown with a 101 after a 33.
Villamor came through with a 560 after a 190 and romped away with a 20-point victory over Cebu Country Club (185-540) in Ruby division. John Hay placed third with a 525 after a 183 followed by Forest Hills (185-521), Bacolod (177-494) and Negros (161-477).
Riviera also dominated the Pearl division, running away with a 63-point victory over Baguio with a 180-497. Baguio had 143-434 for second followed by Manila Golf (146-421), Victorias (138-410), Alta Vista (139-406) and Mactan Island (125-387). -- end it//thanks
