Puckett, Choi share honors in Samsung Tour

-

BAGUIO, Philippines – Club bet Fred Puckett fired impressive rounds of 71 and 69 to share top honors with Korean resident Sean Choi in the Samsung Amateur Tour at the rain-soaked Camp John Hay course here.

Playing in Class A, Puckett made an eagle that gave him a 140 total, two over par over the up-and-down, like championship division winner Choi, and a three-stroke victory over William Kim.

Choi was a cut above the rest in his divison.

He survived a rainy first day and a triple-bogey on the second hole with a 69 then turned in a 71 for a 140, beating another Korean Bong Jin-ho by six strokes. Aristeo Mata placed third at 148.

It was a clean sweep for Koreans in the ladies division of the 36-hole tourney sponsored chiefly by Samsung Electronics Philippines, Inc. as Seo Eun-yong, Lim Ji-hyun and Jung Jung-soon topped Class A, Class B and Class C, respectively.

The Samsung Tour was also sponsored by Mizuno, Crestlink, Custom Clubmakers, Wow Magic Sing, Omnisource International, Gargol, Cranutti and ABW. Club Car was the hole-in-one sponsor while Camp John Hay Manor was the official hotel.

Choi, Puckett and the rest of the division champions won Samsung mobile phones and trophies.

The John Hay event forms part of Samsung’s four major championships this year. It also sponsored the Philippine amateurs at Eastridge, staged a Samsung Am Tour leg at Orchard and willl hold the Interscholastics at Canlubang next month.
