Millonado, Ong rule Highlands Ladies tilt

MANILA, Philippines - Claire Ong and Mencie Millonado bucked blustery condition and churned out a pair of fine rounds to rule their respective divisions in the fourth Highlands Ladies Cup golf tournament at the Tagaytay Midlands Golf and Country Club in Tagaytay recently.

Ong, a 10-handicapper, shot a gross 80 to edge Erika Morihiro by one with a net 70 under the System 36 format for the Class A crown while Millonado, with a 24 handicap, carded a gross 98 for a net 74 and nipped Gemma Sadiwa in the countback for the Class B crown in the 18-hole tournament organized by the Tagaytay Highlands Ladies Chapter.

Morihiro turned in a gross 82 for a net 71 while Sadiwa scored a gross 99 for a net 74 in the fund-raising event for the Sisters of Mary boys and girls town center in Silang, Cavite. It drew a total of 153 players.

Iggy Clavecilla fired a gross 71 to cop the overall gross championship while Larry Patnongon, Orven Rivera and Jun Reyes topped their respective divisions in the men’s category of the event backed by San Miguel, Mercedez Benz and SM as platinum sponsors.

Patnongon scored a net 67 from a gross 72 to edge Junro Mamaril, who had a net 68 from a gross 76, by one for the Class A plum; Rivera came through with a net 70 from a gross 95 to beat Willy Teeten, who made a net 71 from a gross 92, for the Class B title; while Reyes took the Class C crown with a net 75 from a gross 105 for a one-shot victory over Tony Alvarez, who had a net 76 from a gross 104.

Unilever and Pacific Online Lotto were the event’s gold sponsors while Pagcor, Shell, Smart, Security Bank, Bank of Commerce, Dream Satellite TV, Bingo Bonanza and Highlands Prime stood as silver sponsors. The bronze sponsors were Caraderme, PH Care and Myra E, Concrete Masters, Dunkin Donuts, H&E Manufacturing, Philippine Airlines, Powerade/Viva, Marie France, Rudy Project, Guess, Royal Caribbean/ Baron Travel, Kawsek Inc., Dynamic Sports, Chocolate Kiss, Izod, Contempo Designs, El Nido Resorts, Nova/Coffee Twist/ C2, Continental Airlines, Burlington, Von Friedrich Paterro, Rosalind Wee and Rosalie Heo.
