Kamayan Club sees 6th in row vs Media golfers
MANILA, Philippines - The Kamayan Golf Club seeks to extend its winning streak to six in a row, but media is determined to end a five-year losing streak when the two clubs meet again tomorrow, for the Kamayan Saisaki Dads Golf Classic at the short but tricky Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club course.
The two clubs will slug it out for the Tito Eduque Cup for the eighth time, but it will actually be the 23rd edition of the dual meet between the Kamayan golfers and the golfing members of Media.
Tee off is at 6:30 a.m.
Kamayan continued its winning ways last year on the heroics of Ernie Wee and Mingging Ortiz, who both scored net 64s for an eight-stroke victory over Media. Media fell short once again despite the net 60 of the Manila Bulletin’s Delfin Perez.
It was the smallest margin in five years for Kamayan golfers, who massacred the mediamen by a whopping 24 strokes in 2007. The past five meetings have been won by Kamayan by a total of 92 strokes.
The tournament is being held in honor of Tito Eduque, the late national basketball coach and founding chairman of the Triple V Group of Restaurants.
Eduque, who died in November 2001, would have turned 82 on Wednesday.
The tournament format calls for the top 10 players in each side, using their respective club handicaps counting in the team event.
Also at stake are special prizes for the longest drive, nearest to the pin, best dressed and most exercised golfers. A cash prize of P23,000 will be staked for a hole-in-one.
