PNP wins 2 golds in world police table tennis in Canada

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP), showing its finest form ever, captured two gold and two silver medals in the 2009 World Police and Fire Games table tennis event recently at the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Vancouver, Canada .

PO3 Rodel Ireneo Valle and PO1 Henberd Ortalla bested pesky Hong Kong to snare two gold medals in the men’s doubles event, while PCSupt Merio Froilan Medios and PSSupt Bernardo Florece placed third runner-up also in the same event.

“At last, we achieved our goal to win gold medals in this prestigious event after participating here since 2005,” said PO3 Jose Ortalla. Jr., who thanked Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Harry Angping for the support.

“Our hard work and expenses are seemingly paid off with this.”

PO1 Ortalla and SPO2 Maria Deviega won two silver medals for the mixed doubles event.

“We almost did not participate due to financial constraints; we thank our PNPTTC club manager and head coach PO3 Jose Ortalla Jr and PNP officers who made our trip possible,” said PO3 Rodel Valle.

The other members of the Philippine delegation are delegation head PSSUPT. Roberto B. Fajardo; SPO1 Emma R. Abuzu and PSI Robert Nepomuceno.
